Basic Flag Ceremonies

The color guard is comprised of flag bearers for each flag in use (minimum US and Pack flags) and an adequate number of scouts following in procession in any crisp formation according to the number of scouts and the arrangement of the color guard.

Opening Ceremony

Script:

(Have the Color Guard prepared off-stage waiting at attention and the flag bearer holding the flags. The flags can arrive together, US flag in front of the State flag, in front of the Pack flag, or the flags can enter the stage from opposite sides, US and State flags together on one side (US flag in front) or State and Pack flags on one side (State flag in front).  Depending on the side the flags enter the stage from, it may be necessary to cross the flags on the stage to present them in the proper order (facing the stage the order from left to right should be US flag, State flag, Pack flag).)

Leader: “Color Guard, ATTENTION!”

Leader: “Audience, please rise for the presentation of the colors!”
(Wait for audience to stand and for the noise to diminish to a respectable level.)

Leader: “Scout salute! Those not in uniform, please place your right hand over your heart.”
(The leader will salute and the audience will follow this lead.  NOTE: The Color Guard *does not* salute. The flag bearers hands must stay on the flag poles, while the others “guard” the flags while marching or standing at attention.)

Leader: “Color Guard, forward march!”
(Wait for color guard to reach the front.)

Leader: “Color Guard, halt!”

If necessary…

Leader: “Color Guard, cross the colors!”
(US flag crosses in front of others to left-most flag stand (as seen by the audience), then state, then pack flags. Wait for flag bearers to move to the flag pole stands before continuing.)

Leader: “Color Guard, prepare to post the colors!”
(The color guard prepares to put the flag poles into the stands by moving the flags over the stand, but do not insert the poles into the stands yet (wait for the command).)

Leader: “Please join together in reciting the Pledge Of Allegiance!”

Leader: “TWO!”
(Everyone drops salute.)

Leader: “Scout Sign!”
(The leader will raise his right hand and present the Scout Sign and the audience will follow this lead.  NOTE: The Color Guard does not show the Scout Sign, but remains at attention guarding the flags.)

Leader: “Please join together in reciting the Scout Law!”

Leader: “TWO!”
(Everyone drops Scout sign.)

xLeader: “Color Guard, post the colors!”
(Place the flag poles into the stand simultaneously.)

alternative commands…

Leader: “Color Guard, post the flag of the United States of America!”

Leader: “Color Guard, post the flag of the great State of Idaho!”
(If used in the ceremony.)

Leader: “Color Guard, post the flag of Pack 106!”

Leader: “Color Guard, honor the colors!”
(In unison, the Color Guard salutes the US flag then drop their salute (e.g., Scouts can silently count “1-2-drop”) and return to the position of attention.)

Leader: “Color Guard, return to ranks!”
(Wait for color guard to assemble in a formation.)

Leader: “Color Guard, forward march!”
(Wait for color guard to adequately retreat from the stage.)

Leader: “Color Guard, halt!”

Leader: “Audience, please be seated!”
